As I'm setting up to take this photo, security guards let me know that I had literally two minutes before parts of National Harbor were being closed-off for the night. So I set up my tripod, took an long exposure, packed up and came away with this.
This was the first night I'd ever been able to see the milky way with my eyes. I'd recently become enamored with astrophotoghy, but living in DC, there were almost no stars visible. After weeks of research and planning, I came out to Skyline Drive in VA with my friend Max, and we stopped at a few lookouts to shoot. I had a number of photos obliterated by car headlights, but I really liked the way this one came out. I can't wait to try more things like this!
